Miss Holder writes: In October the U19 netball squad travelled to Rainham for the annual Kent
Schools netball tournament, where we faced some tough opposition. After winning our first two
matches against Highsted (8-1) and Coombe Bank (10-1), we faced Chatham Grammar, who we beat 6-2.
We had another fantastic result in our next match against Bromley College, who we beat 9-0,
followed by a win against Kent College Canterbury (6-3). Our match against Highworth proved to be
our toughest yet. After a shaky start we managed to fight back and pull the game to level score,
resulting in our only draw of the tournament. We had a great result against St Simon Stock (12- 4),
and another win against Farringtons (7-4), which by the end of the group stages meant we had seven
wins and one draw under our belts.
Then we were through to the quarter finals, where we were drawn against Bromley High who are notorious for their speed, agility and general excellence in Netball. After a closely contested match we walked away with a 5-3 win. In the semi-finals we met Newstead Woods, who always a force to be reckoned with! The start of the match was extremely tight, with goals being scored at either end in turn. We then turned the tables with Molly Madden in defence making critical interceptions to give the attack the chance to score and take the lead. A couple more goals in quick succession resulted in a 7-3 win to us. And so to the final where we faced Benenden. Grace Rowland’s performance, not only in this match but in those leading up to it, won her Player of the Tournament. However, the last game also saw our first and only loss of the day, with Benenden winning 8-3.
Thanks to our earlier wins, we are now through to the National stages in March.
