In the October half term our A Level historians spent six days in Russia. The first three days were spent in the cultural capital of St Petersburg, which is host to over seven thousand palaces and sixty eight waterways. Highlights included the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Winter Palace and the Battleship Aurora. The second three days were spent in Moscow, where we explored Red Square and marvelled at the splendour of St Basils, the Kremlin and Lenin’s Mausoleum. We also had the opportunity to visit the Moscow University, a striking example of socialist architecture, and enjoyed a performance of ‘Swan Lake’ in the Hermitage Theatre.
