From this September students will be able to study A levels in Philosophy, Graphic Design and Classical Civilisation.
Philosophy: Develop the ability to think logically, critically and deeply. Explore fundamental questions about life. Does God exist? Is morality real? What is the mind? Do we have free will? Who am I? Does life have meaning? Philosophy combines the skills of Arts (reading, textual analysis and writing) and Sciences (logic, reasoning and problem solving) so it supports most A level combinations.
Philosophy benefits University applications for Medicine, Law, Sciences and Literature. In terms of the business world, defending ideas and theories, and exposing weaknesses in ones opponents’ is a short step from marketing and defending a business model, product or strategy.
Philosophy is the ultimate brain training, as well as being a transferable skill and an
opportunity for personal growth and reflection. Philosophy is also hard! Students should be
prepared to read dense texts, grapple with abstract concepts and at times feel challenged. It is
exciting but requires a strong work ethic. GCSE R.S. is not a prerequisite.
