Group swimming lessons are available for ages 4 - 14 years.
All children’s
swimming lessons are grouped by ability.
Lessons are available during term time on Sunday and Monday evenings.
Children are assessed on the penultimate week of
the course and will be automatically placed on the next course.
Individual lessons are also available. Please contact the Leisure Centre for further
information.
Levels:
Starter 1:
Non-swimmers, requiring aid for support
Aims:
- To enjoy the water.
- Use arms and legs to manoeuvre in the pool.

Face entry in water.
- Streamlined stretched body in water.
Objectives:
- ASA Puffin Badge, ASA Duckling, NSP (National Swim Plan)

Starter II:
Confident Non-swimmers requiring little aid
Aims: -
Be happy and confident on front and back.
- Submerging.
- Swimming unaided for short distances.
- Introduction to breastroke.

Streamline body position
Objectives:
- 5m, 10m Badge, Water Skills 1, NSP 2&3.
Beginner:
Confident short distance swimmer, basic movement and
co-ordination in pool. Can perform a supervised jump entry
.
Aims:

Introduce further stroke and breathing techniques for front
crawl, breastroke and backstroke.

Treading water.
- Pick up object from 1m depth.
Objectives: - Tread
Water
- Water Skills 2

25m, perhaps 50m badge, NSP 4-7.
Improver I:
Confident in deep water, 25m swim, knowledge in all
three stroke techniques, submerging.
Aims:
- To improve; stroke technique, breathing, watermanship

Sitting dive

Introduction to butterfly legs

Objectiv

- Water Skills 3,
50m badge, 100m badge, NSP 8.
Improver II:
Aims: -
Preparation for advanced class.
Objectives: - Water Skills 4, NSP

Advanced:
Distance swim of all 3 strokes, sitting dive, underwater
swim
Aims:
- To ensure competent stroke technique.
- To develop watermanship skills.
Objectives:
- National Curriculum Water Skills for 9 +10 yrs.
- Water Skills 4&5.
200m, 400m, 800m badges. NSP 9&10.
Stroke Improver:
Completion of all water techniques
Aims:
- Stroke technique
- Starts & Turns.
- Speed Development.
Objectives: - Water Skills 6, NSP
11&12.
- Bronze, Silver, Gold (Challenge Awards) & Personal Survival.
