Colfe’s Cricketers On Top

CricketDuring the summer Colfe’s cricketers have topped their County averages. Jack Potter playing for Kent U17 has ended up the top wicket keeper with 9 victims with the County Championship final to come. Mathew Stiddard of Yr 9 has topped the Surrey U14 batting, bowling and keeping averages. He has also been selected for the Surrey U16 tour of Jersey. Read more...

GCSE ResultsMany congratulations to our Year 11 pupils who are celebrating record GCSE results with a higher proportion than ever gaining top A* grades. Top performers included Katerina Charalambous, Alex Hill and Charlie Whittaker, each of whom achieved 10 A*s. A further 15 pupils gained exclusively A* and A grades. Read more...

A Level Results 2010Once again pupils at Colfe’s are celebrating some outstanding A level results, but none more so that Ran Xiong, who achieved a quite amazing 5 A*s, 1 A and an A* in her extended project qualification. Ran, who lives in Greenwich, joined Colfe’s in 2003. She is going to Imperial College, London to study Medicine. Read more...

A Musical Triumph

Combined ChoirEighty pupils from the prep and senior school gave magnificent performances at the concert celebrating Abraham Colfe’s induction as Vicar of Lewisham 400 years ago. A harp solo from Lia and a trumpet solo from Olivier (both ex-prep school pupils!) were interspersed between items from the Prep Choir and St.Mary’s Church Choir. Read more...

Colfe's CCF Annual Parade

CCF Annual ParadeColfe's CCF had its annual parade and biennial inspection on Saturday 4th July. The inspection was carried out by Wing Commander Chalklin. The boys and girls were also given the opportunity to fly in a Lynx from 671 Sqn Air Corps crewed by Old Colfeian Captain Jay Cherry brother of Colfe's CCF commander Major Chris Cherry. Read more...

Kent County Netball Colfes was well represented at this year's Kent County netball trials. Girls from schools all over Kent spent an intense day being scrutinised by Kent county coaches for a spot on the U14 squad. Having won the U12 Kent tournament, 7 members of the U12 team had been invited to trial. Read more...

master class Tuesday the 22nd June saw the musical recital hall turned into a mathematics class room when thirty-two pupils from local junior schools participated in the Year 5 Mathematics Master Class. Speak Up Speak OutOn the morning of Monday 21st June, a wide variety of moods were noticeable amongst Year 12. The prospect of a day of Public Speaking was approached with eagerness by some, but equally with fear by others. After being divided into four groups, we initially received some advice on how to structure and deliver a speech, before everyone was asked to individually deliver an impromptu speech on a given title, ranging from ‘my favourite time of year’ to ‘the pogo-stick as a mode of transport’. Maths Day - The Risk Roadshow

The Risk RoadshowOn Monday 21st June, the Hands On Risk Probability Roadshow in association with the Millenium Maths Project came to Colfe’s. We were pleased to involve all pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 in 2 interactive Maths sessions. Session 1 was relating Maths to the real world and explaining how Derren Brown uses Maths for magic and mind games and the probability of winning the National Lottery. Read more...

Junior Mathematics Challenge 2010

Junior Mathematics Challenge 2010On Thursday pupils from the top three sets in Year 8 and the best mathematicians in Year 7, (a total of ninety nine children in all), sat the Junior Mathematics Challenge. This is a competition held annually by the United Kingdom Mathematical Trust. The competition is to challenge the most able students in Years 7 and 8 in a fun way. This year we achieved a total of 6 Gold, 17 Silver and 17 Bronze certificates. Read more...

Charlie Whittaker – National Schools Judo Silver Medallist

Charlie WhittakerCharlie Whittaker from Year 11 successfully fought for Colfe’s earlier in the year at the British Schools Judo Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. In a strong, competitive group, Charlie won a silver medal in the boy’s Year 10 and 11 Under 55kg weight category. Read more...

House Music 2010

House music winners - Beardwood!The annual House Music Competition took place on the afternoon of Thursday 20 May in the Main Hall. The first unenviable task for our guest adjudicator, Mrs Marilyn Harper, was to judge the House Singing Competition performed by Year 7 as part of their initiation into Senior School life! The weeks of intensive discussion (and days of rehearsal), organised by some very thick-skinned House Captains, led to some highly entertaining song and dance (well, movement) routines in a variety of costumes, wigs and short skirts (and that was just the boys). Alex Smith Selected For England U16A Rugby Team

Alex SmithOn the 3rd April I travelled to Wellington College to play in an international rugby festival. On Sunday 4th April we played against Scotland, which was one of the hardest games I have played in, even bigger than being on the bench for Saracens Storm (the 2nd team, which includes some 1st team players) against Bath 'A'. I played inside centre against Scotland and this was a position I hadn't played in for a few years. Read more...

Thomas Jewers Represents Colfe's in the SE England Schools Cup Final

Many congratulations to Thomas Jewers, who last night (Thursday, 13th May) represented Colfe's school in the South East England Schools Cup final (Kent V Sussex). Kent won 2-1. Thomas was forced to play the match with his ankle strapped up due to torn ligaments, but he was so determined to play there was no way of stopping him. Thomas was also told by the U18's manager that he will continue to be in the squad for the forthcoming years.

Sousafun Comes to School

SousaphoneSousafun are two professional musicians who visited the school this Monday. The surprise came when they demonstrated musical points by the use of some really extraordinary equipment. The main instruments that Sousafun play are the Sousaphone and the Clarinet, but the real showstopper came when the pair showed that almost anything can become a musical instrument. Read more...
