Colfe’s Team Mathematics Challenge 2010

The winnersOn the morning of Thursday 25th February 2010 students from set 1 in years 8 and 9 took part in a Team Maths Challenge in the main hall. A team consisted of two students from year 8 and two from year 9. There were 11 teams in total. The competition consisted of 3 rounds. Read more...

U15 London Oratory Sevens

rugby ballFollowing a successful 15 a-side season, where they reached the last 16 of the Daily Mail Vase competition, Colfe’s entered the sevens season with confidence. A runner up position at the Dartford GS tournament earlier in the week proved this wasn’t misplaced and the team arrived at this prestigious competition on a high. A total of 16 schools from all over London, including Eton College and St Benedict’s, plus some from further north all took part in the knockout competition. Read more...

Half Term Trip To Austria

Trip to AustriaOver Spring half-term a group of 6th Form German linguists, Historians and Artists enjoyed a culture-laden trip to Austria. Our initial destination, Vienna, was cold but impressive and the students visited the beautiful (yet unfinished) Stephansdom, the magnificently yellow Schonbrunn Summer Palace of the Habsburgs, the Sisi museum in the imposing Hofburg Imperial Winter Palace and many art galleries including the Belvedere which housed Gustav Klimt's 'The Kiss'. Eva, who was the ‘posthumous’ step-sister of Anne Frank, talked for two hours on her experiences as a child in enemy-occupied Holland, her two years in hiding and her nine months in Auschwitz. Bromley Deaf Children Society Presented with Cheque

Children present chequeCheque Presentation On Friday 29th January the prep school were pleased to welcome Rachel and Debbie from Bromley Deaf Children’s Society to their morning assembly.  They spoke about their organisation and how they helped the families of deaf children in Bromley and the surrounding areas.  The school were delighted to be able to present them with a cheque for £1400 from the proceeds of our Christmas Fayre.  Read more...

Children show firestation GlovesY6 Visit Lee Green Fire Station London Fire Brigade and Greenwich Council jointly organised a Junior Citizen Scheme Event for our Year 6s last Monday. The aim was to promote good citizenship in children in Year 6, which assists in preparing them for a more independent life at secondary school, and beyond into adult life. During their half day the children took part in 9 twelve minute interactive scenarios with professionals and volunteers from a range of partner agencies. The scenarios covered independent travel, stranger danger, home fire safety, health, safety in the community and peer pressure. Read more...

at the Thames barrierYear 6 Visit The Thames Barrier By Ben and Edward 6A On Thursday 4th February Year 6 went to the Thames Barrier to learn about climate change and flooding. We had been learning about this in Geography. We got off the coach and were soon lead off to our first activities. Our group headed off to learn about sustainability and how to reduce waste. After playing lots of fun activities in the classroom we went into the garden which was designed to be completely sustainable. Some things helped to reduce energy, some were recycled (wormery) or reused (benches), and some used renewable sources of energy (solar powered lights). Read more...

Private Peaceful A Sell-Out!

Private Peaceful This weekend (29th & 30th January), the Upper School staged Michael Morpurgo’s award-winning novel Private Peaceful at the Greenwich Theatre, London. The production, which comprised over 50 students from Years 10, 11, 12 & 13, was directed by Head of Drama, Gavin Bruce, and played to virtually full houses on both Friday and Saturday night. In addition, there were two matinee performances, one of which was attended by a mix of local primary and preparatory schools. Read more...
