A Musical Triumph

Combined ChoirEighty pupils from the prep and senior school gave magnificent performances at the concert celebrating Abraham Colfe’s induction as Vicar of Lewisham 400 years ago. SousaphoneSousafun are two professional musicians who visited the school this Monday. The surprise came when they demonstrated musical points by the use of some really extraordinary equipment. Saxaphone Fun

Sax playersYear 6 recently spent their music lesson listening to three expert professional saxophone players perform a range of music which demonstrated the history of Jazz. They started in the 1900s with Scot Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, and moved through various styles, ending with a piece that demonstrated the sounds of Funk Jazz. As a treat, their finale was a toe tapping version of the Simpsons TV theme. Read more...

My World War II Workshop Experience

Tin hatOn Thursday 29th April Year 6 were taken down to the hall to learn about WWII. Waiting there were two men dressed in World War II clothes pretending to be actual soldiers from the war, one man who is actually in the war today and a woman. The men dressed as WWII soldiers had dull green jackets and heavy backpacks with various other smaller bags. One of them had a Lee Enfield bolt action rifle, a 2 litre water canister and they both had green army caps. The modern day soldier was dressed in a camouflaged t-shirt, shorts and hat , along with some black boots. Read more...

My Sleepover at School

thumbs upOn Friday 23rd April 2010, Year 3 had a sleepover at school. The boys were divided into two classrooms and the girls were all put into one classroom together. We put our luggage in these rooms then went to the hall for a quick kit-kat and drink – yum! After our tasty snack we went to the swimming pool. We had lots of fun, the floats were out and we played games with our friends. Around 6pm we all had dinner. I had saveloy and chips along with orange juice to drink. After dinner we went outside to play football and kingball. This was fun and we really enjoyed it. We finished playing outside at 7pm. Read more...

The Tudor Experience.

Tudor ExecutionOn Tuesday 23rd March Year 5 visited the Museum of Kent, to learn all about how the Tudors lived. We all wore Tudor costumes. I felt awkward because the clothes were uncomfortable. Jordan looked really good in his costume and reminded me of Henry VIII. First we went and met the Long Bowmen. He showed us all his bows, arrows and a musket. We got to have a go at using one of the bows. Luckily we didn’t have an arrow! Read more...

Colfe’s Prep Head pupils, parents and ex-pupils complete the Virgin London Marathon

John Gallagher, Head of the Prep SchoolCongratulations to John Gallagher, Head of the Prep School, who was delighted and relieved to complete his first marathon this Sunday. He found the first 15 miles quite enjoyable, but tells us that the last 11.2 miles were excruciating! Supported by his running partner Garry Mallen (ex Colfe’s parent) and buoyed by family, friends and lots of Colfe’s faces, he managed to break 5 hours in 4:52:54. Read more...

Colfe’s Raises Funds for Demelza House

The children’s hospice needs to raise £15,000 per day to cover running costs and without any government support all money comes from either donations or fundraising. Read more...

Bromley Deaf Children Society Presented with Cheque

Children present chequeCheque Presentation On Friday 29th January the prep school were pleased to welcome Rachel and Debbie from Bromley Deaf Children’s Society to their morning assembly.  They spoke about their organisation and how they helped the families of deaf children in Bromley and the surrounding areas.  The school were delighted to be able to present them with a cheque for £1400 from the proceeds of our Christmas Fayre.  Read more...

Lee Fire Station

Children show firestation GlovesY6 Visit Lee Green Fire Station London Fire Brigade and Greenwich Council jointly organised a Junior Citizen Scheme Event for our Year 6s last Monday. The aim was to promote good citizenship in children in Year 6, which assists in preparing them for a more independent life at secondary school, and beyond into adult life. During their half day the children took part in 9 twelve minute interactive scenarios with professionals and volunteers from a range of partner agencies. The scenarios covered independent travel, stranger danger, home fire safety, health, safety in the community and peer pressure. Read more...

at the Thames barrierYear 6 Visit The Thames Barrier By Ben and Edward 6A On Thursday 4th February Year 6 went to the Thames Barrier to learn about climate change and flooding. We had been learning about this in Geography. We got off the coach and were soon lead off to our first activities. Our group headed off to learn about sustainability and how to reduce waste. After playing lots of fun activities in the classroom we went into the garden which was designed to be completely sustainable. Some things helped to reduce energy, some were recycled (wormery) or reused (benches), and some used renewable sources of energy (solar powered lights). Read more...
