On the morning of Monday 21st June, a wide variety of moods were noticeable amongst Year 12. The prospect of a day of Public Speaking was approached with eagerness by some, but equally with fear by others. After being divided into four groups, we initially received some advice on how to structure and deliver a speech, before everyone was asked to individually deliver an impromptu speech on a given title, ranging from ‘my favourite time of year’ to ‘the pogo-stick as a mode of transport’.

The annual House Music Competition took place on the afternoon of Thursday 20 May in the Main Hall. The first unenviable task for our guest adjudicator, Mrs Marilyn Harper, was to judge the House Singing Competition performed by Year 7 as part of their initiation into Senior School life! The weeks of intensive discussion (and days of rehearsal), organised by some very thick-skinned House Captains, led to some highly entertaining song and dance (well, movement) routines in a variety of costumes, wigs and short skirts (and that was just the boys).

I played inside centre against Scotland and this was a position I hadn't played in for a few years.

The surprise came when they demonstrated musical points by the use of some really extraordinary equipment. The main instruments that Sousafun play are the Sousaphone and the Clarinet, but the real showstopper came when the pair showed that almost anything can become a musical instrument.
